I then went to the desktop version to re-register to use Endnote Online, hoping that this would upgrade me from the Basic version. When I got to Endnote Basic, this is what my account it here that you get the message that it expired at the end of Sept? I think they got as far as putting in an e-mail address but then it showed the expiry message. I got all the students this morning to open/save an Endnote desktop account then click on the sync button to create a web account. I personally have had no difficulty in logging in this afternoon, and wondered if this is a general issue or specific to some groups of users at Nottingham? I have received two reports today from colleagues concerning problems with EndNote Online (copied below).

The only way around this is to upgrade to version X7.
So unless Thomson Reuters decide to extend this expiry date, no new accounts will be able to be created from an X6 desktop installation. The expiry date for X7 is 31st August 2015. Historically each version of EndNote was given a 2 year window in which it could be used to create EndNote Web (Online) accounts, with the idea that users should be looking to upgrade within that time. However, the fact is that EndNote X6 has gone past the date where it is capable of setting up new EndNote Online accounts. If it was X6 this would explain this situation, as the Activation Expiry Date for this version of EndNote is 31st August 2014 (according to the latest information we have from Thomson Reuters - the X7.2 release notes).Ĭoincidentally we were testing something on X6 late yesterday and got the error message your colleagues had, quoting the end of September expiry, so there is a slight mismatch there.
